Following a nationwide search, Advocate Aurora Research Institute has selected Sarah Long to fill the newly created position of director of the Office of Sponsored Research.
In her role, Long will oversee the Research Institute’s Research Business Services/Billing department, which manages the business aspects of research, including coverage analysis, budgeting, contract billing and other business operations, and the Sponsored Programs department, which serves as the central office responsible for managing all external and internal research funding at Advocate Aurora Health.
“Sarah has experience gaining efficiencies in operations and growing revenue,” Vice President of Research Services Kurt Waldhuetter said. “She has previously implemented a number of systems, including Oncore, DEEP6 AI, iLab, Greenphire ClinCard and eReg, to modernize research operations and capture more revenue. Her experience and leadership is a great match with our needs in Sponsored Research.”
Long comes to Advocate Aurora after working for August University in Georgia as director of Research Operations, where she provided system-wide strategic and operational leadership for clinical and translational research activities across the Augusta University Health System, Children’s Hospital of Georgia and Augusta University’s nine colleges, which include the Medical College of Georgia and Dental College of Georgia. She is currently working toward completion of her doctorate in health care leadership.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of working within a large health system and am excited to bring my experience in operations and integration to Advocate Aurora Research Institute and help grow research with this great team,” Long said.
Long will begin her role as the Research Institute’s director of Office of Sponsored Research on Aug. 2.
