Advocate Aurora Research Institute to host annual HCSRN conference

Milwaukee, WI – Advocate Aurora Research Institute will host the 2024 Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) conference, a three-day event dedicated to showcasing scientific findings and spurring collaboration on research initiatives that improve health and health care for individuals and populations.

Kicking off on Tuesday, April 9, at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, the annual conference brings together a diverse audience, including researchers and study managers, clinicians and health system leaders, funding agency personnel, and patient-partners. High-caliber science and ample networking opportunities blend together in this unique research conference experience.

Attendees will hear from leading researchers on topics including advancing high-quality, equitable research in the age of new health care technologies.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to host this year’s HCSRN conference and showcase important research happening in health systems across the country,” said Denise Angst, PhD, RN, the Research Institute’s Vice President of Academic Research and HCSRN Conference Co-chair.

This year’s keynote speaker is clinician-methodologist David M. Kent, MD, MS. Dr. Kent’s presentation is titled "An Overview of Bias and Fairness in Algorithmic Models” and will tackle the interplay between bias and fairness and the difficulty of reconciling the two. He will also discuss the use of race in clinical prediction models and the problems that arise from omitting it as a variable.

Founded in 1994, HCSRN is a unique consortium of research centers embedded within community-based health delivery systems. Members of HCSRN share a commitment to rigorous public domain research that addresses critically important questions for improving health outcomes.

The annual conference has been a mainstay of HCSRN since its inception, serving as a venue for research teams to disseminate scientific findings, stimulate new collaborations and share insights about conducting research in real-world care delivery settings.

“This conference brings together brilliant minds from diverse fields and epitomizes our commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation, ultimately improving patient care,” said Suzanne Simons, HCSRN Executive Director.

Findings from HCSRN conferences are published each year in Advocate Aurora Research Institute’s own peer-reviewed medical journal, the Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews.

About Health Care Systems Research Network

Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) includes 20 research centers, each associated with a health care delivery system. Researchers at the centers collaborate on research networks and multi-site studies in real-world health care settings across the United States and in Israel. With health care systems serving more than 20 million individual patients, HCSRN can draw conclusions about how best to care for both common and rare health concerns. Network researchers have been answering pressing questions about keeping people healthy and delivering effective care since the network was formed in 1994.
