Krause Construction is a 2023 Good Samaritan of the Year award recipient for generously supporting Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital for the last 21 years and for the company’s service in the greater community.

For more than two decades, Krause Construction, based in Blue Island, IL, has been a generous and loyal supporter and partner of Advocate Charitable Foundation, gifting more than $350K over the years to support local health care.

“Our first opportunity to work with Advocate Charitable Foundation was in 2003,” shared Dan Krause, founder and CEO. “They invited us to become a sponsor of the annual gala. We knew Advocate Health Care provided excellent care throughout the region, and we wanted to help make a difference. Since then, we’ve developed a wonderful relationship that has grown and flourished.”

Krause, founded by Dan in 1984, has supported multiple hospitals throughout Advocate Health Care’s footprint but has directed the majority of its charitable gifts to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

“We have a unique partnership with Advocate Good Samaritan because of various construction projects we completed over the years,” explained Dan. “We spent a lot of time getting to know the medical staff, and I quickly realized how amazing their work is and how dedicated they are to their patients and the community.”

Dan also has a very personal reason for supporting Advocate Good Samaritan. Two years ago, he took a bad fall and tore the quadricep muscle in his left leg.

“I told him to go to the emergency department at Advocate Good Samaritan,” said Rachelle Mahoney, CFO of Krause Construction. “I knew he‘d be in good hands.”

“I had fantastic care; their professionalism is top-notch,” added Dan. “And I knew some of my doctors, so I already trusted them.”

In the broader community

Dan and his company have a long history of making an impact in the community by supporting several local non-profit organizations.

“I’ve participated in different leadership boards in the Chicagoland area. I’m chairman of the board of the Blue Island Community Health Care Foundation, which supports local health care organizations in need through charitable gifts and grants,” shared Dan. “It’s one of the most fulfilling positions I’ve held.”

Krause has supported a local mobile dental clinic, homes for disabled adults, a school and a halfway house.

“We basically do these projects at cost, and we get contractors to help keep costs reasonable,” said Matt Lepper, President of Krause Construction. “Knowing that the projects we’re working on directly impact people by giving them the care they need in the space they need is very gratifying.”
“In our hearts, we just love to give back. We’ve been granted many successes, and when we find a cause like Advocate – or any of the other nonprofits we support – that truly cares, it reflects back on us,” said Dan. “We love to give back, pure and simple, and it feels good.
