Your gifts help create memories this Thanksgiving

This holiday season, Aurora Family Service is steadfast in its mission to help communities overcome financial barriers by providing Thanksgiving meals to families in need through its Family to Family Thanksgiving program.

Aurora Family Service offers in-office therapy and home-based care supporting several areas, including family counseling, professional education and development tools, and money management resources to help people regain and maintain stability after a life-changing event. One of their goals is to provide families with enough support to help boost their confidence and hope for the future.

Recognizing Thanksgiving is a time for families to reunite and reflect, Aurora Family Service, with help from generous donors and volunteers, has donated more than 77,000 memory-filled Thanksgiving meals to families in need within the greater Milwaukee area since 1996.

This year, they intend to reach more than 4,000 families during their annual Family to Family Thanksgiving event by offering them a certificate to shop for fresh fixings of their choice to create the perfect holiday meal. Families, one ingredient at a time, can produce dishes best served with love where their household can bask in the cozy Thanksgiving splendor together, starting new traditions of strengthened family units built on appreciation and connection.

“We have nearly 150 different churches, schools and community organizations from the Milwaukee area on our distribution list whose families are all dealing with food insecurity,” says Karri Biscobing, Lead Supervisor for Aurora Family Service. “Each $45 gift certificate provides families with the opportunity to shop for fresh Thanksgiving ingredients of their choice at their favorite supermarket and to enjoy a holiday meal at home with the ones they love.”

The program continues to make an impact, thanks to long-time loyal donors, like Beth.

“I have supported Family to Family Thanksgiving for over 20 years because food is one thing that brings people together, which is especially important during the holidays. People’s lives are so stressed, and food can be hard to come by. I truly believe that one way I can give back for all the blessings that I have received in my life is to help others,” says Beth.

Hear from grateful families on how your small act of kindness makes a big difference:

“Because of your generosity, our family was able to enjoy a heavenly Thanksgiving meal. The kids' shopping experience was enjoyable, choosing the items, assisting with the decision-making. My girls loved being in the kitchen learning the true meaning of being thankful to cook and enjoy such a meal. We thank you for giving us the pleasure.” – Anonymous

“It means a lot to have a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner. In years past we just couldn’t swing it. As an Aurora West Allis Medical Center baby born nearly 50 years ago, and not ever straying too far from West Allis, it feels comforting to know that Aurora is looking out for families throughout the year. Thank you!” – Jennifer

“My family is thankful for this meal because it means we can get together, spend time with loved ones we don’t see every day, and fill our bellies with wonderful warm food. We appreciate your kindness and generosity.” – Leah
